{"id":3598,"date":"2023-09-07T11:45:20","date_gmt":"2023-09-07T11:45:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wordpress.nationaltrail.k12.oh.us\/ittech\/?p=3598"},"modified":"2023-09-07T11:45:20","modified_gmt":"2023-09-07T11:45:20","slug":"solving-windows-10-update-issues","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wordpress.nationaltrail.k12.oh.us\/ittech\/2023\/09\/07\/solving-windows-10-update-issues\/","title":{"rendered":"Solving Windows 10 Update Issues"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Here at school, and at my home, we use an SSD for the OS and programs, and a traditional HDD for user files and data.\u00a0 This requires a registry edit before a user logs on, and has worked great to save SSD space for those items that need SSD speed.<\/p>\n<p>However, it appears to cause issues with major updates in Windows.\u00a0 While minor updates happen frequently, major ones always fail.\u00a0 I needed the major upgrade to 21H2 to make Starfall work, so it was a priority!\u00a0 \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p>To fix this issue I had to do the following.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>\u00a0Logon with the admin account that was originally setup with windows.\u00a0 This account is stored in the User folder where windows was installed.<\/li>\n<li>Undo the registry hack to put user folders on the D: Drive.\n<ol style=\"list-style-type: lower-alpha\">\n<li><strong>[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\\Microsoft\\Windows NT\\CurrentVersion\\ProfileList]<\/strong> should be returned to<strong> %SystemDrive%\\Users<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li>Run the following in an administrator command prompt.\u00a0 In short, it repairs the Windows installation folder.\n<ol style=\"list-style-type: lower-alpha\">\n<li><b class=\"ocpLegacyBold\">DISM.exe \/Online \/Cleanup-image \/Restorehealth<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li>Now I ran an upgrade from a flash drive with the current Windows release&#8230;and it worked!<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Hope this helps anyone else with Windows upgrade issues, or more importantly, Starfall issues!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Here at school, and at my home, we use an SSD for the OS and programs, and a traditional HDD for user files and data.\u00a0 This requires a registry edit before a user logs on, and has worked great to save SSD space for those items that need SSD speed.
