{"id":47,"date":"2020-07-26T15:22:23","date_gmt":"2020-07-26T19:22:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wordpress.nationaltrail.k12.oh.us\/newblog\/?p=47"},"modified":"2020-07-26T16:26:03","modified_gmt":"2020-07-26T20:26:03","slug":"teaching-online-in-a-traditional-classroom","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wordpress.nationaltrail.k12.oh.us\/edtech10\/teaching-online-in-a-traditional-classroom\/","title":{"rendered":"Teaching Online in a traditional classroom"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The title of this post may be confusing to some people.\u00a0 This fall we are being expected to start teaching our traditional students (albeit with a mask and as much social distancing our classrooms will allow) while also teaching those students that are currently at home.\u00a0 Those &#8220;at home&#8221; students might be there for a myriad of reasons, but we need to teach them no matter the cause.\u00a0 How do we do that without sleep deprivation?\u00a0 We need to alter our classroom setup just a little, and make sure the activities we do in class are mirrored on our LMS (in our case, Moodle.)\u00a0 If a school is 1:1, then staff can put must of their activities on the LMS, and save a little paper as well.<\/p>\n<p>This class talks specifically about classroom setup using a document camera (or really any webcam) to make your class easy to record or stream.\u00a0 We\u00a0 look at 3 synchronous teaching tools (there are more) and how they can be used asynchronously as well.\u00a0 \u00a0We also look at 3 asynchronous tools.\u00a0 And finally, we look at setting up our YouTube channel to make the videos universally accessible.<\/p>\n<p>The idea is that no matter your subject and classroom, you provide the same quality instruction to online learners that those students in your classroom have come to expect.\u00a0 They get (almost) the same activities, supports, and outcomes.\u00a0 All with little extra work for you as a teacher.\u00a0 This does depend on the support, hardware, and capabilities of your local school setting.\u00a0 I will do a future segment on teaching online without local support, as I know this is a concern with many teachers.<\/p>\n<p>Note:\u00a0 Synchronous teaching means the students are actively watching (and hopefully participating) as the instruction happens.\u00a0 It is preferred by many, but has it&#8217;s drawbacks.\u00a0 Not all families have enough devices for all students to use them at the same time.\u00a0 Not all families have the bandwidth to support synchronous learning.\u00a0 Some families have no bandwidth at all.\u00a0 Hence we also need to consider asynchronous learning.\u00a0 Asynchronous does not happen when we dictate.\u00a0 It happens whenever it can for the learner.\u00a0 Maybe the internet is via moms phone, and she works first shift.\u00a0 Maybe the family drives into the school designated hotspot area (or a local restaurant) and downloads the instruction and activities.\u00a0 We simply need to recognize the needs of all our learners.<\/p>\n<p>https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=EIipZsFZA8M<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The title of this post may be confusing to some people.\u00a0 This fall we are being expected to start teaching&hellip;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":3,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"video","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[6],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-47","post","type-post","status-publish","format-video","hentry","category-online-teaching","post_format-post-format-video"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/wordpress.nationaltrail.k12.oh.us\/edtech10\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/47","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/wordpress.nationaltrail.k12.oh.us\/edtech10\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/wordpress.nationaltrail.k12.oh.us\/edtech10\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/wordpress.nationaltrail.k12.oh.us\/edtech10\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/3"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/wordpress.nationaltrail.k12.oh.us\/edtech10\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=47"}],"version-history":[{"count":16,"href":"https:\/\/wordpress.nationaltrail.k12.oh.us\/edtech10\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/47\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":63,"href":"https:\/\/wordpress.nationaltrail.k12.oh.us\/edtech10\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/47\/revisions\/63"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/wordpress.nationaltrail.k12.oh.us\/edtech10\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=47"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/wordpress.nationaltrail.k12.oh.us\/edtech10\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=47"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/wordpress.nationaltrail.k12.oh.us\/edtech10\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=47"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
